MCFARLANE TOYS DC MULTIVERSE YEAR 1 - PART 3!

It’s Wednesday. You know what that means… ToyFarce review!

Third and final round of pictures for the McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse! From the Arkham Knight/Origins wave until Red Hood (single version). I did Part 1 and 2 back to back, but needed more time to go part 3, as I was still missing a couple of the figures. Now that they’re all here, here we go!

Part 1: https://www.toyfarce.com/news/review-mcfarlane-toys-dc-multiverse-wave-1

Part 2: https://www.toyfarce.com/news/mcfarlane-toys-dc-multiverse-year-1-part-2

ARKHAM KNIGHT/ORIGINS WAVE:

More video games action figures, with the Batman from the Arkham Knight video game, along with Deathstroke from Arkham Origins. I’ve already had some fun with the way Deathstroke looked like in the packaging in our social media, but for those who missed it, he looks like he’s doing the Conan O’Brien string dance (also, follow @toyfarce, you’re missing out!).

BATMAN (ARKHAM KNIGHT)

This one is way better than the Arkham Asylum one (see Part 2 of our DC Multiverse Year 1 reviews). The articulation is pretty bad, but to me, the scuplt more than makes up for it. This figure has a great presence and will look awesome on any shelf.

DEATHSTROKE (ARKHAM ORIGINS)

Same as the Batman, a great looking figure, with pretty bad articulation, but that will still look good on a shelf. It’s only weird that he came only with a sword, but now that we know that there might be something about Warner Bros removing guns from their products, it might be linked. The sheath is made of soft rubber, which is also weird.

CYBORG (TEEN TITANS)

Now this figure is AWESOME! In the first wave, the 3 figures related to Animated series were not necessarily faithful to their source, but this Cyborg figure looks exactly like Cyborg did in the cartoon “Teen Titans”! Some of his parts are made of clear blue plastic, so we can see a bit through, which is a very nice touch. He comes with a blasting canon arm that can be used to replace his arm.

THE MERCILESS BUILD-A-FIGURE WAVE

Finally, we got another ‘build-a-something’. There was a ‘Build-a-Batmobile’ in the first wave, but nothing after that. The Build-a-figure from this wave looks gorgeous and there was no “filler” figure in that wave, it ended up being 100% awesome.

BATMAN (REBIRTH)

A Greg Capullo designed Batman figure from McFarlane Toys? Sign me the heck in! At least it looks better than the DC Collectibles Designer Series Greg Capullo Batman that looked just awkward… He comes with a couple of axes, so you can recreate that panel from the comic book (minus the baby Darkseid). The cape is interesting, it’s blown to the side by (imaginary) wind, so it’s a nice change from decades of normal/hanging capes. Another solid Batman from McFarlane Toys.

INFECTED SUPERMAN

Coming from the Batman/Superman comic book, this is the figure I actually thought would be the one I would like the less from this wave, and boy, was I wrong. This Infected Supes is GREAT. Decent range of articulation, killer sculpt. The only thing missing would be a flight stand (I don’t know why we don’t get a flight stand for all flying characters. Why are they stingy on the flight stands?). A+ figure.

THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS (WITH SKY TYRANT WINGS)

The first Batman Who Laughs figure was already a very nice action figure, but this one blows it out of the water. The mouth open sculpt is terrifying, the wings look spectacular. Not sure why he comes with the WCW World Heavyweight championship belt, but I’ll take it! It’s like if the Batman Who Laughs was cosplaying as Sephiroth, and I’m totally down for that (except he has 2 wings instead of 1…SEPHIROTH!)

ROBIN CROW (EARTH -22)

There are 3 different versions of that figure: One with mouth open mouth, one with a smirk, and one with a screaming face. I got the smirk at random and I’m happy with it. Those Robins are very well done, with a lot of creepy poses that can be achieved. Maybe one day i’ll pick the other 2, just to have a nice display with both Batman Who Laughs.

Special mention about the tiny shorts, which are made of soft rubber and move nicely with the legs. Creepy !

THE MERCILESS (BUILD-A-FIGURE)

Last but not least, The Merciless (from a dark universe where Bruce Wayne became a God of War and killed Wonder Woman). That figure is part of the “That’s a lot of plastic!” series that Todd loves. Amazing sculpt, easy to piece together. Basic articulations, it would have been nice to be able to pose him in different sword-wielding poses, but we’ll make do with what we have. More Build-a-Figure of the sort, please!

THE FLASH VS EARTH -52 BATMAN (aka RED DEATH)

I wasn’t super excited about getting a second Flash, but I really needed the Red Death to complete the set of the Dark Night: Metal villains. The Flash is pretty much identical to the single version, with only a different head (screaming instead of smirk) and different hands, and no lightning effects. That Red Death, though, is a great figure. Same articulation range as Flash, but EVIL! I wish he came with the black bat-lightning effects that he had on the first promo pics, though. The base is a nice addition, even if it’s a bit plain. It’s going to be nice to use for other toy photography, still.

The gang is nearly all back together!! (The Drowned, coming soon!)

FLASHPOINT BATMAN

Now THAT is a AWESOME figure. That Thomas Wayne looks like he came right out of the comic book. Probably one of the last few figures to come with guns, also, it seems. I can’t say anything bad about that one. Great sculpt, great poses, great presence. More of that, please!

RED HOOD (SINGLE VERSION)

I did not pick the two-pack with the red Nightwing, because I already double dipped on the Flash with the other two-pack, and since this one was announced not too long after the two-pack came out, I just waited for the single version instead, which is completely identical to the other one. That helmet is SHINY! I thought the DC Essentials Red Hood figure (from DC Collectibles) was a great figure, well, that one is even better. I guess it’s the popped collar. It makes anything looks cooler. The White Knight Batman has one too, and he does look cooler too. We need more figures with popped collar!

And that is a wrap on the first year of DC Multiverse from McFarlane Toys! Which one was your favorite? And which DC Multiverse figure are you the most looking forward to in 2021? Let us know in the comments!

More news at 11:00… That’s a lot of plastic!
