Last week, an ex-student from a fashion/design school from New York, working for PWM industry (@playing_with_myself) revealed during an appearance in @highschoolcreations ‘Diorama Talk’ live show that JNCO were planning to make a comeback. It was mentioned that due to the size of the Haslab Sentinel, people might need bigger pockets if they want to have their Sentinel as a pocket fig, and JNCO heard that call. The first part is not even a joke: JNCO are really trying to reintroduce themselves to the world, and want us to shop “groundbreaking wide-leg denim and streetwear that’s unapologetically you”.

This is an actual Facebook ad. This is not a drill.

“Collectible items”. Damn, they really know how to make us want those, right? They’re collectibles!

This is an actual tweet from 2019, so it looks like it’s not their first attempt at a comeback…

MATTEL’S MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE REVELATION WAVE 1!

It’s Wednesday, you know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!

This week, we’re taking a look at some of the figures from the first wave of Masters of The Universe Revelation figures by Mattel! He-Man, Skeletor, SkeleGod and the beastly Battle Cat, to be precise. Masters of the Universe Revelation is the title of the recent Netflix show by Kevin Smith, so obviously, if there’s a new show, there’s gonna be new figures! If you have not seen the show yet, I’d skip reading this review! (You can always just look at the pretty pictures, though!)

The packaging for those figures is really nice

Battle Cat is HUGE

First, He-Man, aka Prince Adam (SPOILERS, especially since it was the main point of that show…). He-Man comes with his Power Sword, a shield, and an extra set of arms. Like many have mentioned before, those figures tend to have a small head compared to their body, but it’s not bothering me too much. I just had a little brown paint from his furry shorts that ended up on the leg, the classic paint app issue.

“Fabulous, secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said: ‘By the Power of Grayskull!’”… That is such a normal thing to do, grab random items and hold them up saying ‘By the Power of Grayskull’. I try all the time at home, with wooden spoons, a chair, a cat…

What would He-Man be without Skeletor? (apart from peace and quiet, harmony in his kingdom and all that). Voiced by Mark Hamill, yes, THAT Mark Hamill in the new show, Skeletor was actually way more efficient than he has ever been in the old Filmation cartoons. He actually managed to do something, this time! The figure comes with extra hands, his Havoc Staff and the ‘transformation staff’ he used in the show.

The following figure turned out to be a massive spoiler. However, until I saw the show, I just assumed it was a fun figure design that they were releasing to get more bigger figures on the shelves. At the end of the Part 1 of Masters of the Universe Revelation, Skeletor actually won, grabbed the Power Sword and yelled “By the Power of Grayskull!” before turning into a gigantic ‘SkeleGod’. He comes with extra hands, a Power Sword and a big green flame effect for his hand.

The cape had a nice design, with some plastic parts that hold it down

His neck and the green flame effect are made of transluscent green plastic, and look really cool when hit with lights.

Finally, the Deluxe Cringer aka Battle Cat (SPOILERS!) is a HUGE toy. Seriously, the box is humongous. The figure has great articulations, scales perfectly with the other figures and you can remove the armor to reveal a normal Cringer. We are far from the unarticulated Big Jim tiger painted in green from our childhood!

New He-Man content and figures are flooding the shelves, with the arrival of a second, more kid-friendly show on Netflix. One thing is for sure, we have not heard the last from He-Man and Skeletor. What a time to be a Masters of the Universe fan!

The first wave also had Evil-Lyn and Moss Man, and the second wave, which should be coming out very soon will have Teela, Man-at-Arms, Beast Man and Spikor.

The WonderFest 2021 (Autumn edition) occured during the weekend, and several of our favorite asian (or ‘import’) brands revealed tons of new toys. Good Smile Company, the Japanese manufacturer behind the Nendoroids and Figma action figure lines, held a short press conference to make an important announcement. A japanese representative of GSC, in a suit, walked to the stage, and gave the following speech:

“We, at Good Smile Company, want to give you the best possible products. We know our fans love the Nendoroid figures, and that there is some concern over the Figma line, who seems to heavily rely on delivering only anime girls, often cute or sexy, to the market. We wanted to reassure you on that matter: From now on, Figma will stop making “anime waifus” (the crowd let out a huge collective gasp)… SIKE! Here are 25+ more!” (the crowd popped, several grown men were seen crying of pure joy).

Here are some of the MANY figures that Figma revealed this weekend:

(There was also a cool Mummy figure with a sarcophagus, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, …figures displayed, but nobody realized they were here because of the abundance of anime girls).

ToyFarce hopes that no collectors were scared by that announcement with a twist, and that all your waifus needs will be fulfilled, whether it is by Figma or any other ‘import’ company.

The Sentinels are starting to pop up in some collections, and there has been some unrest among the mutant action figures community. ToyFarce interviewed a few representatives of the X-Men about the situation.

You could cut the tension with an adamantium claw…

“We had a great thing going on here”, said Iceman, a long time resident of the mutant shelf. “People had entire shelves dedicated to mutants, with kick-ass displays, and we could really shine. We knew that things might change when they first announced the Haslab Sentinel, but we didn’t know how much it would change.”

Maverick told ToyFarce “We had the best of times. We had our own shelves, but now we’ll have to share it with one of *those*… We’ve seen people displaying the Sentinel fighting mutants on their displays, so now, I guess we’ll have to be in fighting poses, after years of being displayed all together… It’s just not the same… We might have to move to another shelf. Maybe the Avengers one?”

This week, we’re checking the Ultimate April O’Neil from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 90’s movie by NECA! This figure was available for pre-order for a limited time on NECA’s website, and was hyped by actress Judith Hoag herself before that, in her “April’s Takeover” during the month of April, with some very cool vignettes letting us have a peek behind the curtains. There were 2 versions of the figure, a standard version (seen in this review) and a limited edition that came with an extra yellow jacket and press pass, signed by the actress. The limited one sold out in minutes.

April comes with an extra head, extra hands, a channel 3 microphone, her purse, a sai, a pile of pizza boxes and a stand. This figure is STUNNING. The likeness is insane, the hair is 100% 90’s, the outfit and accessories are great, this is a homerun for NECA.

Now, I guess I (knee)d to address the elephant in the room: the knees. It was such a jour(knee) to get that figure made, and most of it is amazing, except… those knees. We all wished this figure could be perfect, so we could all live in harmo(knee), but (knee)dless to say, it came up short only because of those knees... It’s actually the only issue with the figure. Between the Sentinel and that, September has officially been the “BOTCHED-KNEES MONTH”. (I wanted to make more leg jokes, but they’re a bit cor-knee).

MCFARLANE TOYS MY HERO ACADEMIA 5” FIGURES WAVE 1

It’s Wednesday, you know what that means… ToyFarce reviews!

This week, we’re having a look at the first wave of My Hero Academia 5” figures from McFarlane Toys! Those figures are basically the McFarlane Toys version of a 5POA (Five points of action) figures, except they have ball joints for the arms and legs. They have very nice details and paint, and most importantly, they’re just $9,99!

The whole wave 1: Izuku Midoriya, All Might and Katsuki Bakugo

First off, Midoriya, or “Deku”. That figure really looks gorgeous. Sure, it doesn’t have the articulations of a Figma or Revoltech figure, but once again, it’s a $9 figure. And to be completely honest, I kinda think this one has a better headsculpt/paint on the face than the Revoltech or Figma ones. It looks way more like his face in the anime than the other ones.

See what I meant with the face? He kinda looks better than the Revoltech or Figma ones to me…

The part of his suit that he never EVER wears is there too!

That is pretty much it for the articulations. (Once again, it’s a $9 action figure)

All Might also looks great. This one is pretty much a smaller version of the bigger action figure McFarlane Toys did, with less articulations. The sculpt and paint are also top notch.

And finally, Bakugo, everyone’s favorite character…not. Bakugo is basically an asshole that also wants to become a hero. The details on this one are also spectacular, apart from his face, which I think is the least accurate one of the 3. All the decadence of his suit is there, from the effects behind his head to his gigantic grenade gloves.

It’s not often that we get 3 very good looking figures for about $30. If McFarlane Toys continues making them and we can get many of the characters, I’ll end up with a shelf full of MHA figures without going bankrupt with Revoltech or Figma prices, so I’m all for it. The second wave of those 5” figures will have Todoroki, Iida and the villain Stain.

Think you’re a true action figure fan? Bet you don’t hate action figures as much as this fan, who pre-orders at least 20 figures every week!

Despite self-identifying as a “lifelong toy and action figure fan,” 27-year-old Brad Fairthorne of Baton Rouge devotes nearly all of his time and energy to bemoaning his perceived shortcomings of “the toy business” and gleefully anticipating how various companies will fail.

This past week, immediately after the Hasbro Pulse Marvel Legends livestream, Fairthorne spent seven consecutive hours in an online toy website forum arguing that Hasbro is “grasping at straws” and will be “belly-up in five months, guaranteed.”

Cloistered in his basement bedroom of his parents’ suburban home, the former sandwich artist writes on his blog, “Brad’s Toy Page”, about his innumerable grievances regarding McFarlane Toys, NECA, Super7, Mafex, Mattel, Hasbro, Mezco, and any other company that does not conform exactly to his subjective whims and preferences.

Blog posts Fairthorne has penned include: “10 Reasons This Wave of DC Multiverse Should be the Last,” “Why the Star Wars Black Series line Needs to Go Away,” and “NECA Actually Stands for Not Even Capable of Articulations”

Although he is convinced that “Todd McFarlane, Ryan Ting and Dan Yun are regular readers” of his blog, Google Analytics for the site reveal that the majority of his website’s 29 pageviews last year were the result of his mother, who was looking to see if the site contained dirty language.

Fairthorne has declared he is “boycotting Marvel Legends” on at least 27 separate occasions.
